The Italian Constitution

Article 1 Italy is a democratic Republic, founded on work. Sovereignty belongs to the people, who exercise it in the forms and within the limits of the Constitution. Article 4 The Republic recognises the right of all citizens to work and promotes the conditions that make this right effective. Every citizen has the duty to perform, according to their abilities and their choice, an activity or function that contributes to the material or spiritual progress of society. PART I - RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF CITIZENS Title III Economic relations Article 35 The Republic protects work in all its forms and applications. It provides for the training and professional advancement of workers. It promotes and encourages international agreements and organisations aimed at affirming and regulating labour rights. It recognises the freedom of emigration, subject to the obligations established by law in the general interest, and protects Italian labour abroad. Article 37 Working women have the same rights and, for equal work, the same remuneration as working men. Working conditions must allow women to fulfil their essential role in the family and ensure special and adequate protection for mothers and children. The law establishes the minimum age for paid work. The Republic protects the work of minors with special regulations and guarantees them the right to equal pay for equal work.
